Cartagena is located on the coast of Colombia and full of culture and history. In the 'Old walled city' is where you'll want to spend your time. It's covered in colour and some of the prettiest buildings I've ever seen. The walls were built surrounding the city back in the 1500's to protect them from pirates and foreign invaders. This city is blooming with stories and history, as well as so many unique bars and restaurants. It's also just a short boat ride away from some of the most gorgeous islands in the world. Cartagena is for those who want to sit beachside, dance in nightclubs or eat your heart out.

Where to stay:
The Clock Hostel & Suites $
Viajero Hostel Cartagena $
Hotel Don Pedro De Heredia $$
Hotel Casa San Agustin $$$
Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa $$$

We stayed at Hotel Don Pedro De Heredia and we absolutely loved it. It was dead centre of the Old City making it easy to walk around to any of the places we wanted to see. The staff were excellent and so welcoming. Rooms were clean, had air conditioning and the breakfast that was included was a great variety.
Where to eat:
- La Mulata (Caribbean Restaurant)
- El Arsenal: The Rum Box (Bar & Grill)
- El Patio Getsemani Bar (Local Colombian food)
- Juan del Mar (Tapas & Seafood)
Our absolute favourite restaurant was Juan del Mar. They specialized in seafood and tapas and everything was to die for delicious. They have live music playing all throughout the day and all the servers gave off such a happy energy. We went once for lunch then back again the next day for dinner. If you're going to eat out anywhere make it this place!
Nightlife:
- Alquimico (4 story bar, with rooftop)
- La Jugada Clubhouse
- Cafe Havana
- La Movida

Rosario Islands
The Rosario Islands are a must-see while visiting Cartagena. It's a grouping of 28 gorgeous islands that are located an hour away by boat.

We did a tour which we booked through https://www.getyourguide.com/cartagena-l362/cartagena-rosario-islands-hopping-tour-with-snorkel-t291745/. This tour included visits to, Barú island, Isla Grande, and Cholon.
Be sure to bring cash for drinks/food while visiting the islands. They do accept credit card but only with a hefty fee.
Cartagena is such a beautiful city to really dive in and spend time looking around. It's truly a destination that has something for everyone.
